Do you realize that tomorrow's date is
8/8/08
? Well, some folks, out there,--WAY OUT THERE,
believe dates like this have special meaning, such as the "END
OF THE WORLD," THE APOCALYPSE,
ARMAGEDDON! Look out!! --the sky is
falling! YAH, Yah, yah!
I've lived through 5 dates in which there were
4 like numbers i.e. 5/5/55 thru 9/9/99 etc. and nothing
ever seemed to go wrong. Yesterday, I heard a guy on the radio, calling
August 8, 2008, the day of
"Crazy Eights" meaning lots of odd or crazy things
will happen on that day and we should be
aware or on guard,"
just in case"----cuckoo - cuckoo - cuckoo!
I do, however, know what's happening at
Roget's on Friday! We're going on with life as usual, and tasting some
terrific wines between 5 & 8 p.m..
In fact, we'll be pouring
8 +

(half of 8) different
wines on 8/8/08! Hah! I laugh in
the face of the apocalypse! IT WON'T HAPPEN HERE, NOT IN OVIEDO!
Ok, so, now that I'm feeling totally invincible,
lets talk about the 8+4=12
wines YOU CAN SAMPLE, that is, IF THE WORLD
DOESN'T END!
At the front tasting
bar, Mr. Rob Chase of the Optic Wine Company, will be pouring samples and
answering questions about these 4 wines
The Excelsior Winery's Chardonnay,
Cabernet Sauvignon and
Shiraz all from South
Africa, and from Portugal, Casal Garcia,
Red Vinho Verde--yep
red, -- all these wines are priced at , you
guessed it --------

At the table in
front of our "fireplace lounge" area, Mr. Neil Long of Southern Wine and
Spirits will pour samples of the following 4 wines
From Wolfgang Vineyards
in Burgenland, Austria a wine called
Grunter-Veltiner, similar to
a dry Riesling or a crisp sauvignon blanc. Very different, delicious and
great for the summer heat.
From the Columbia Crest Winery
in Washington State, their brand-spanking-new "Two-Vines-Vineyard
10" Syrah rose'
And, from the Asti Winery in
Sonoma County, CA., Cellar #8 Cabernet
Sauvignon and Cellar
#8 Zinfandel all priced at
------ $8.88!
At the back table,
near the coolers, the famous and talented Mr. Richard Davis will pour
samples of these 4 wines
South Australia's Oxford Landing
"GSM"(grenach-Shiraz-mourvedre),
Cabernet-Shiraz,
Shiraz and Sauvignon
Blanc----same price -- $8.88!
There ya have it!
12 wines for 8/8/08 priced at $8.88, and our standard 1/2 case
and full case discounts apply to all these wines too!
Heck,
mix a case of 12 in any combination, and the price
would be less than $95 + sales tax!
Because the
world might end before the weekend, I'm going to forego the BYV
(backyard vacation) recipe just for this weekend -- if the cuckoos
are right--we won't need any recipes anyway.
Remember to
bring your favorite wine glass when you come in on Friday evening
to try the 12 "Crazy 8s" wines-- We'll pour the
same wines on Saturday from 1-5, that is, if there's any left!
